First Flight of a Canadian Built F-86 Sabre 9-August-1950

On August 9, 1950, the first Canadian-built F-86 Sabre, designated CL-13 Sabre Mk 1, took its maiden flight at Dorval, Quebec, piloted by A.J. Lilly. This aircraft, assembled from US-made parts, was essentially a Canadian version of the North American F-86A. It was the first of over 1,800 Sabres produced by Canadair in Canada.
